The ancient Yangguan Pass is located 70 kilometers southwest of Dunhuang City along the Hexi Corridor.From Han Dynasty(205BC.—220AD.) to Tang Dynasty(618 AD.—906AD.), Yangguan has been a must pass along the South Silk Road, which was a strategic point that the ancient military strategist had to contend for.

Yumenguan Pass , commonly known as the north customs of ancient silk road, was first built around 105 BC. after Emperor Wudi of han Dynasty fought back the Huns and recovered the whole Hexi corridor.Yu means Jade,and Men means gate. Just because a lot of jades were introduced to China through the pass after the silk road was opened.

Yulin Grottoes, also known as Ten Thousand Buddha Gorge，are located 70 kilometers south of Guazhou County (formerly Anxi County) in Gansu Province, which is under the jurisdiction of Dunhuang Academy. All of grottoes were excavated on both sides of the vertical cliffs in the Yulin River Canyon. Yu Lin means elm forest, so it got its name from the forest of elm trees along the river bank.It is called the sister grottoes of Mogao grottoes.

The museum is in the south of dunhuang city. Originally it was found in 1979, but the new museum was built in 2011. In the museum the history and relics about dunhuang in different dynasties are shown very detailedly. From the museum you will get to know the prosperity and development of dunhuang in the history.

The ancient SuoYang Castle is located 168 km southeast of Dunhuang city, Gansu province. It was listed as one of the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council in 1996 . In 2014 it was included into the world heritage list by UNESCO. At beginning SuoYang Castle was built in the Han dynasty around 2000 years ago, and it was rebuilt in Tang dynasty around 7 century.
