As the tourism of dunhuang is developing , the transportation system is getting more advanced and convenient though it is a small city . Nomally three ways to Dunhuang are provided: Flights, Trains, and Cars.

1),By air

The most convenient and economical way to Dunhuang is by air. Dunhuang airport is 12 kilometers away from east of the city. At present, regularairlines to Lanzhou, Xi'an, Beijing, Guangzhou,Chengdu,Shanghai and Xining are available at 58 flights each week. 

2),By train

Of course, travelers can also choose to take trains to Dunhuang ,whichtakes 300-500 CNY/pp including tax.
Liuyuan Railway Station has direct regular trains to Shanghai, Beijing,Xi'an, Chengdu, Lanzhou, and Urumqi. 

From 2016 in Liuyuannan fast train station,there are fast trains to Turpan,Urumuqi,Jiayuguan,Zhangye,Xiningand Lanzhou as well.
Dunhuang  Railway Station is 10kilometers away from the eastern of the city. There are regular sleeper trainsto Beijing , Xi’an and Lanzhou and fast trains toLanzhou,which pass by Jiayuguan,Zhangye,Xining as well.

3),By bus

If you go to Dunhuang on a road trip instead of taking a flight, you will surely experience a long journey, but enjoyable. For example, the highway from JiaYuguan to Dunhuang  is 385 km,which takes4.5 hrs through the Gobi desert. Because the Gobi Desert is endless without obstacles,cars can travel at a speed of 100 km/h at high speed. The beautiful scenery andmirage can be seen very often in the Gobi desert.
